Take yourself to the Highlands! This event takes place July 9-12 at MacRae Meadows on the mountain. Very limited parking but shuttle buses are available .
I first heard about the Highland Games when I was maybe seven or eight. My father was a homicide detective, and his partner Brett was absolutely ripped. When I was a kid, I thought the guy was basically a professional wrestler. Turned out a big part of his workout was training for the Highland Games. They've stuck with me since.
Thirty thousand people show up every summer, some for the caber toss and sheepdog trials, some for pipe bands echoing off the ridge line at dusk, some because their grandfather brought them once. You don't need Scottish blood to belong there. Just curiosity about why this weekend has kept happening since 1956.
We're trying something new for this one. We build an interactive schedule to help navigate all the fun! Try it out and let us know what you think.
