The Embers - It's Heart and Soul, Rhythm and Blues, Feel Good Music.
Have you ever heard of Carolina Beach Music, or "shagging"? Like most kids in the 90s in the Carolinas my summer vacations were usually spent at Myrtle Beach. You know what that's like. But one of the core memories from those trips was spending a few evenings at Fat Harold's. We had a friend who worked there, so my sister and I had Shirley Temple's while my parents danced the night away to The Catalinas, Band of Oz, The Drifters, and of course The Embers. Regularly, I feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia when I hear any beach music. In my mind, I am still sitting there watching my parents shag with the best of them. Last year, I got to take my parents to see The Drifters at the App Theatre. Admittedly, I had high hopes and it turned out to be an incredibly memorable evening. We sang together the entire night. I just realized this was happening last night, so now I'm trying to iron out the logistics to make it happen for them again this weekend. I don't always get gifts right, but I nailed it last time. I could see it in their eyes.
They have so many hits, but you gotta start with the default.
