A developer will pitch Town Council on 716 bedrooms on the N.C. 105 Bypass. No vote Wednesday.
A developer wants to bring 332 apartments on the N.C. 105 Bypass into Boone, and Town Council will hear the pitch Wednesday.
The item is an informal discussion at the 9 a.m. meeting on Oct. 14, listed on the agenda as a "Proposed Zoning Request for Ridgehouse Development." No vote is scheduled.
According to the council packet, BREC, a Wilkesboro firm, will present an annexation and zoning request for a 63-acre site owned by Scout, Inc. The site sits outside town limits, according to the town's GIS map. The preliminary plan shows 716 bedrooms across buildings of 28 and 32 units, capped at 40 feet. The unit mix runs from 132 one-bedrooms to 68 four-bedrooms. The plan lists 738 parking spaces and about a third of the site as green space.
The packet doesn't say who is behind "Ridgehouse Companies," and it includes no staff recommendation. It doesn't say who the apartments are for.
The pitch comes three weeks after council denied the Walk at Boone rezoning, 4-0. That was Landmark Properties' plan for 618 beds on the driving range off Beverly Heights Avenue. Nothing in the packet connects the two projects.
Informal discussions don't bind anyone. If the request moves forward, it would come back for a public hearing.
Public comment is on the agenda. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. in Council Chambers at 1500 Blowing Rock Rd, and the full agenda and packet are on the Council meeting page.
