Funk and doom

Your Correspondent saw The Hourglass Kids at Boone Saloon the night before Halloween, playing what could only be described as ‘a funky doom reminiscent of The Comet is Coming.’

And this funky doom wove its way through a young woman dressed up as a boxer who was swaying; a man in a full-body lobster costume with the hoodie of the lobster head down looking at his phone; a man at the bar wearing a U.S. Rolex Shooting Team hoodie, where their sport was — Your Correspondent reasoned — shooting watches; a man wearing a t-shirt that just said, ‘Bed’; a Wirt from Over The Garden Wall swaying back and forth, not yet realizing he could have a moment — a capital-M Moment! — ordering a drink from Wirt from Over The Garden Wall who was serving drinks behind the bar; and more.

And but the sound wasn’t limited to funky doom, of course: there were extended, soaring, driving riffs where one scrunched one’s face in respect; there were interstitial reggae chop-ch-chop beats; and there were moments when they slowed it down, because — lest we forget — Halloween is for lovers.

Verdict: 9/Halloween is for Lovers.
