The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of North Carolina and southwest Virginia, including Alleghany, Ashe, Surry, Watauga and Wilkes counties in the state and Carroll, Floyd, Grayson and Patrick counties in Virginia. Excessive rainfall could cause flooding in the area during the watch period.
