App State's Flock cameras were searched approximately 1.5 million times over three months this spring, with most searches conducted by out-of-state law enforcement agencies. The university ended national access to the cameras in early August.

One point five million searches in three months. Most of them from cops somewhere else, running queries against cameras bolted to light poles on a North Carolina college campus. App State finally killed the national access in August, but the number alone is the story here. A camera network installed for campus safety became a surveillance tool for every agency with a login and a suspect name to run.
