Wanted: a few more High Country voices

left917 is growing into an independent hyper-local news outlet for the High Country, and we want your voice in it. Think alt-weekly; local, opinionated, culture-first. No corporate owner, no algorithm, no ads. One place to spotlight this region's culture and the people who make it, passed hand to hand instead of pushed by a feed.

To do that right we need more people who live here and love it. You don't need a masthead or a CV. We're building a bench of contributors, and we're open to everyone from folks who've never had a byline but care enough to say something, to App State journalism students who want real clips, a real audience, and a real say in local coverage.

Here's where you could come in:

Culture writers. Spotlight the artists, makers, venues, and corner businesses that give the High Country its character. If you can see what matters before it's obvious, this is your beat.

Show-goers who make the drive. You're always down the mountain for a night out in Asheville, the Triad, or Charlotte. Tell folks what's worth the trip and why, for Worth the Drive.

DJs and curators. Got a set or a mixtape you can't stop sharing? Put it on On Rotation and let the whole region hear it. We're open to genres ranging from classic bluegrass, outlaw country, and folk to the dark corners of indie, trip-hop, hardcore, trap, dubstep, and then some.

Civic watchers. You follow town council, the county, the school board. Write an op-ed with a point of view and get it in front of people who'll act on it.

Independent, local, and built on word of mouth. If a corner of the High Country is yours, help us cover it.

Interested? Get in touch and tell us what you'd write. That's the whole application.
