A hundred years is a long life, and Julia Morton gave a good stretch of hers to one of the most beloved peaks in the state. Alongside her husband Hugh, she helped look after Grandfather Mountain and keep it protected and open to the rest of us, swinging bridge and trails and animal habitats and all. Places like that stay wild because families like the Mortons choose to tend them. The High Country is better for her hundred years. Rest easy.
