Boone BOO! runs Saturday, Oct. 31, 4 to 6:30 p.m. downtown. The center of King Street closes to cars for trick-or-treating, surprise guests and performances, and the costume contest.

Closures

Vehicle access is restricted from about 3:55 p.m. The streets stay closed until 7 p.m., or until they are clear of pedestrians and objects.

• King Street, Appalachian to Burrell/Water.

• Depot Street, Rivers to Queen.

• Howard Street, Appalachian to Burrell, open only to local traffic exiting.

Queen Street stays open to local traffic only, so watch for pedestrians. Through traffic should use Highway 105, the 105 Bypass or Rivers Street.

Parking

Metered spaces on King Street are available until 2 p.m. Any car still on the closed stretch of King or Depot Street when the event starts can't move until the street reopens. In an emergency, Boone Public Works staff can guide you out.

Queen Street stays open for parking. Public lots: the lower lot at First Baptist Church, App State's Peacock Lot and other ASU public lots, and the Watauga County Courthouse deck. Read the signs in each lot.

What's on

The Watauga County Public Library has Halloween activities from 3 p.m. Downtown merchants hand out candy from 4 to 6:30, many from their storefronts, and some businesses on the open stretches of King and Howard Streets join in too, so stay on the sidewalks there. The Jones House lawn has trick-or-treating and a haunted house from 4 to 6. The costume contest is on King Street in front of the Jones House at 5 p.m., with lineup at 4:30. The Appalachian Theatre lobby has a photo spot with Halloween backdrops. The Turchin Center and the Jones House have non-candy treats.

Businesses and groups outside the event footprint can sign up to table or trunk-or-treat through the Jones House's participation form. The rest of the weekend is on The High Country Haint List.

Closure and parking details are from the Town of Boone's notice as of Oct. 26. If the Town changes them, we'll update this page. Questions go to the Town's Cultural Resources office at 828-268-6280.
