The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia, including Watauga County, beginning August 12 at 2:01 a.m. and continuing until August 13 at 8:00 a.m. The watch was issued due to the possibility of flooding from excessive rainfall.
