The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of northwest North Carolina and southwestern Virginia, including Watauga County, due to the possibility of flooding from excessive rainfall. The watch was in effect from 7:24 p.m. on July 21 through 8:00 a.m. on July 22.
