A hiker took a bad fall on Grandfather Mountain around noon yesterday, and it took Linville and Crossnore fire departments, Avery County EMS, and county emergency management to get them off the mountain. We do not know yet how badly the hiker was hurt or what exactly happened on the trail. These mountains demand respect and they do not always give second chances. If you are heading out, tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
