The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy has permanently protected 372 acres added to its Roan High Preserve in Mitchell County on the southern flank of the Roan Massif. The land was acquired in three separate tracts known as Feeding Ridge, Cook Creek and Chestnut Ridge.
