The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of North Carolina and southwest Virginia, including Alleghany, Ashe, Surry, Watauga and Wilkes counties in North Carolina and Carroll, Floyd, Grayson and Patrick counties in Virginia. The watch was in effect due to the possibility of flooding from excessive rainfall.
