Hyper-local news & culture
No algorithm. Just word of mouth.
left917 is the High Country's independent read: local news, music, culture, and what's on, all in one place. No app, no login, no ads. And we're writing our own stuff now, not just rounding up everyone else's. Putting on an event? Share your calendar and we'll keep it on the air. Saw a flyer for something that isn't here? Send us the photo.

Did you see the game? we did. Others, too. This morning's patchy fog hangs around until about 10am, then it's sunny and 58. It's 51 by the 7pm shows and 47 at 9, so bring a jacket tonight.
The High Country has now cast 13,205 early votes. Watauga turned out 1,007 of them Friday, right on pace. Ashe dropped from 500 a day to 250. Nov 3 means standing in line with the procrastinators. Nobody wants that. Early voting runs through Oct 31. Get out there.
left917 is pro-human-curation. We go looking for the weird, the unique, and the heartwarming stories that make the High Country what it is. Dive bars, hollers, barns, forges, civic meetings. Right here.
40 events on today's calendar. We picked seven for the orange button below, along with our editor's Afroman verdict and this weekend's early voting hours.
