Conservationists from Western North Carolina gathered in Boone on Monday evening to oppose a federal plan to rescind the Roadless Rule, which currently restricts road construction in national forests. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced last month that it would move forward with rescinding the rule, a change that would give wildfire managers and land developers increased access to national forest lands.
