Four separate federal disaster grant applications. That is what Ashe County Commissioners voted for on August 17, aimed at rebuilding infrastructure and hardening it against the next flood or storm. Helene landed the blow. These applications are the bureaucratic answer to it, the slow work of asking Washington to help pay for what broke and what might break again. The county is asking for money to fix what happened and to make sure it does not happen the same way twice.
