Trunk or treat, then Council

Tuesday is quiet, so look ahead to a ghost story. On Wednesday at 6pm the Appalachian Popular Programming Society leads Ghost Tours from Sanford Mall around the east side of campus, with haunted stories of the old buildings.

Today

10am Four exhibitions are open at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts until 6pm: Asymmetrical, Jill Pelto, Beth Galton's Cut Food and Nancy Hershberger.
2pm Free Store Road Show at Plemmons Student Union, Table 6. Donate old clothes, pick up new ones, until 4.
3:30pm King Street Farmers Market at 126 Poplar Grove Connector, the last of the season, until 6:30.
5pm Caldwell CC&TI Trunk or Treat in Building 460 on the Watauga campus, free, until 7.
6pm The Board Identity, Tuesday game club at Boone United Methodist Church, modern board games and small bites, adults, until 9. It is 50 by 9pm, so bring a jacket for the walk home.

More spooky nights are on the High Country Haint List.

Worth knowing

The Boone Town Council meets Wednesday in Council Chambers, 1500 Blowing Rock Rd. A work session starts at 5pm on Oak Street ordinance enforcement and the town's workforce housing application, and regular business and public comment begin at 6pm. The 6pm agenda has the Clement Street apartments rezoning, Jeremiah's Italian Ice drive-through hours, a Veterans Memorial bench, a rezoning application for 155 WYN Way and a $230,500 water engineering contract. The whole agenda.

Boone BOO! on Saturday has a costume contest on King Street in front of the Jones House at 5pm (lineup at 4:30), a haunted house and trick-or-treating on the Jones House lawn from 4 to 6, and a Halloween photo spot in the Appalachian Theatre lobby. The full rundown.

Early voting ends Saturday, Oct. 31, at 3pm. Sites and hours. Clocks fall back at 2am Sunday, Nov. 1, so Halloween night gets an extra hour.
