Ghost tours, Hamlet, and Council

Wednesday night belongs to the haunted old buildings. At 6pm the Appalachian Popular Programming Society leads Ghost Tours from Sanford Mall around the east side of campus, with the stories those buildings are said to hold.

Today

2pm Haunted High Country at Seven Devils, where neighbors trade ghost stories and carve jack-o'-lanterns, until 3:30.
6pm Ghost Tours on Sanford Mall, App State, free.
6pm Wednesday Jazz Jam at Fizz Ed, 260 Howard St. House tunes until 7:30, then an open community jam until 9.
6pm Thrift and Trade in the White Hall lobby. Bring an item to swap, and browse clothes from the Mountaineer Free Store.
7pm Hamlet at I.G. Greer Studio Theatre, the first night of a run that goes through Nov. 6.

Bring a jacket. The sun clocks out early, and nobody has ever regretted a layer on a ghost tour.

More spooky nights are on the High Country Haint List.

Thursday

5pm Seven Devils Trunk-or-Treat at The Park at Seven Devils, free candy, popcorn and hot dogs.
7pm Pauletta Hansel and Hilda Downer at Huzzah Books, 114 Clement St., free. Hansel, Cincinnati's first poet laureate, reads from Understory: A Women's History of Appalachia with Appalachian poet laureate H.D. Free.
7pm Halloweekend in the Plemmons Student Union Solarium, a costume live music night with DirtyBitDJ and more, until 10.

Thursday is pleasant until the sun leaves. Bring a jacket and act like you planned it.

Friday

11am Halloween Flash Day at Iron Orchid Tattoo Studio, arms and legs only, flash $50 to $200, fairy hair and feather installs 3 to 5pm, cash and Venmo.
7pm Thriftsmith presents Halloween @ ZRCskate in Trade, Tenn. Costumes required, with Bedrumor, Proxima System and Ellie K's Wurld, doors at 7, music at 8, $13 in advance, $15 at the door.

Friday stays mild, but a sleeveless costume is a choice. Bring a layer.

Worth knowing

The Boone Town Council meets Wednesday in Council Chambers, 1500 Blowing Rock Rd., and Boone posted an amended agenda Tuesday afternoon. The 5pm work session now covers only the workforce housing application. Oak Street ordinance enforcement moved to the 6pm regular agenda, along with the Clement Street apartments rezoning, Jeremiah's Italian Ice drive-through hours, a Veterans Memorial bench, 155 WYN Way and a $230,500 water engineering contract. The whole agenda.

Early voting ends Saturday, Oct. 31, at 3pm. Sites and hours.
