Meet the Culture beat’s newest writer. App State senior, concert-goer, and maker of too many things.
Hey everybody! I’m Ellen and I’m writing for the culture. Currently, I’m a senior at App State studying Creative Advertising with a minor in Creative Engagement and Social Change. I love doing side quests, so when I saw the open call for writers, I was very intrigued. I have always had an interest in journalism, and I’m passionate about the local community. It’s a perfect fit!
As a person of varying interests, I enjoy participating in extracurriculars. I am involved in the Appalachian Popular Programming Society as the Main Stage Publicist, Director of External Affairs of the App State Ad Club, President of the Mentoring Club, and Mountain Ayres Acapella. I like to dip my toes into anything and everything this town has to offer.
In terms of hobbies, I am a big nature enjoyer and love going on walks outside. I like to stay active through jogging, yoga, and snowboarding as well. Creating is my favorite thing to do! Making graphic designs, food, music, films, poetry and arts and crafts ignites my soul. It is so important to express yourself and put your emotions into a healthy outlet. Going to concerts has always been a really fulfilling pastime for me. It always feels so transcendent. I'm super excited to get out there covering stories that encompass art and the human experience!
