Say Hello to Storm

Hello Left of the Dial! I’m Storm and I am the High Country’s newest culture writer. I’m an English Graduate student at App State, and I enjoy spending my free time hiking, playing video games, or doing one of my many other hobbies.

I grew up in Ohio, moved to eastern North Carolina in late 2022, and have found my home in the mountains fairly recently. I’m looking forward to real snow again, like up in the North, but am a little nervous considering my apartment is at the top of a mountain.

I love to read, but haven’t had much time to get through anything except the assignments for class. My past couple reads were Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie.

I also enjoy discovering new music! I’ll listen to pretty much any genre as long as I can find a song that I vibe with, but indie is my favorite. Despite that, Billie Eilish has managed to be my top artist on Spotify for a couple years running. Caamp, Car Seat Headrest, and Noah Kahan are a few of my other go-to artists. I’m excited to cover concerts, festivals, or anything music related.

I found left917 and was immediately invested. My goal this year is to spend less time on my phone and social media, and more time out in nature with the people I love. Left’s whole premise was perfect for me, and just what I was looking for, so when the call went out for writers, it was a no-brainer to reach out.

I’m going to be traveling around the High Country checking out local events, concerts, and vendors. I love experiences, trying new things, and meeting people! You can expect me covering the newest happenings when I’m not stuck with my nose in a textbook or on my computer studying.
