Starting this month, the USDA and state health department will drop oral vaccine baits across Western North Carolina and neighboring states, targeting the raccoons and foxes that carry the virus to our pets and ourselves. This is preventive work, not a response to an outbreak here, but a line drawn before the problem gets worse. Leave any bait packets alone. Call Wildlife Services if you find one.
