The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a severe thunderstorm watch covering nine counties in north-central and northwest North Carolina, including areas such as Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Alleghany and Ashe counties, valid until 8 p.m. EDT on July 28.
