Running on drive

Fri, Nov. 6.

It's First Friday, which means downtown Boone keeps the galleries open past dark. The Turchin starts at 4pm, the artist market at FizzEd picks up at 5pm, and it's all walkable.

Artists

First Friday is a reminder of how many people here are making things. We want more of them on left917. We're looking for local tattoo artists, painters, and photographers for regular features on the site, work that gets a real home here and keeps coming back. Pitch us.

Ojeda

Republicans redrew North Carolina's map to bank a seat or two, and Richard Hudson, the man who runs the party's House campaign arm, just lost his own. Richard Ojeda won the 9th and Hudson has conceded. Nice gerrymander.

The count

The 5th District race is still unofficial: Hubbard 139,034, Foxx 138,935, a 99-vote gap. Ballots are still being counted through Nov. 13. We'll update the numbers when they move, and on Nov. 10 and Nov. 13 no matter what. The election map refreshes as the State Board posts, and here's what happens next.

You asked

A reader couldn't find the filters in the long scroll on a phone. Fair. There's now a yellow What's happening button at the top of the page that drops you right at them. What else is slowing you down? Email studio@left917.net.

Today's picks

A bluegrass 80th anniversary in West Jefferson, a free night of short films, and what to expect from the count are in the orange button below.
