First Friday is tonight, and downtown Boone gets loud about its artists. The Turchin Center opens the App State Art Faculty Biennial at 4pm, free, with hors d'oeuvres. An hour later a market of local artists sets up at FizzEd, close enough to walk between. Start at the museum, end at the table where somebody is selling the thing they made.
2pm Klee Liles at Old Barn Winery has thirty years of pop covers, songwriter standards, and originals behind him, and he's now based in the High Country. Good way to start the afternoon.
4pm First Friday Art Crawl at the Turchin, free. The Biennial opens. Jill Pelto's show closes Saturday, and Nancy Hershberger's runs through Nov. 21.
5pm First Friday Art Market at FizzEd. Five or more local artists, three hours, Andy Page on guitar until 7. Browse, talk to the people who made it, buy something small if it gets you.
7:30pm Ralph Stanley II & the Clinch Mountain Boys at the Ashe Civic Center, $24, $7.50 for students. The band turns 80 this year, and Ralph II has carried the Clinch Mountain style since 1995.
8:30pm Toy Sheep Microcinema at the Appalachian Theatre, free, recommended for adults. Two short films, Costumes and The Stars of Saint Matthew, one hour, a thank-you to the people who keep showing up. Our story on it.
The 5th District is still unofficial. Last we checked, Hubbard 139,034, Foxx 138,935, a 99-vote gap. Counting isn't over: what the State Board says happens next. Here is when it can move, and where we'll show you.
By Tue, Nov. 10: provisional and cured absentee ballots get counted. Watauga's board of elections meets at 1pm.
Thu, Nov. 12: the last military and overseas ballots are due at 5pm.
Fri, Nov. 13: counties canvass and certify their results.
Counties add ballots as their boards meet, so the numbers can move before Nov. 10. We'll update this page and the election map when they do, and on Nov. 10 and Nov. 13 regardless. Between those days, if nothing moved, we won't pad it.
