Hyper-local news & culture

No algorithm. Just word of mouth.

left917 is the High Country's independent read: local news, music, culture, and what's on, all in one place. No app, no login, no ads. And we're writing our own stuff now, not just rounding up everyone else's. Putting on an event? Share your calendar and we'll keep it on the air. Saw a flyer for something that isn't here? Send us the photo.

Voting

Watauga has cast 11,917 early in-person ballots through Wednesday. That's more than 1 in 4 registered voters, and over 90% of the county's entire 2022 early total with days still to go. The ASU Student Union alone has taken 3,655, 31% of the county total, with half from unaffiliated voters, 46% from Democrats and 3% from Republicans. Early voting ends Saturday at 3pm. Our early voting story has sites and hours.

Weather

Sunny today and Friday, then mild and cloudy for the weekend. Perfect spooky weather. Put the phone down and go outside now. The Haint List is full of ways to spend it.

The crew

left917 is run by a passionate crew of volunteers who keep staying up too late for this town. If you dig what we're doing, we'd love your support. Or just share the site. That's sick too. We'll sleep when we're dead.

Today's picks
