The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of the Piedmont and western North Carolina, including areas in Avery, Burke, Caldwell, and McDowell counties, valid until 8 p.m. EDT on July 13. Flash flooding from excessive rainfall was possible in the affected areas.
